 THE CAVE OF ISTURITZ It occupies a privileged location in the foothills of the Western Pyrenees, a short distance from the current shore line of the Atlantic Ocean (around thirty kilometers) and the first Pyrenean foothills (the first peaks at more than 1000 m are only distant 20 km). Overall, its main geographic advantage is to be located in the crossing area between, on the one hand, the Aquitaine plain and, on the other hand, the Basque-Cantabrian cornice and the Ebro valley, the latter being accessible to the south by a series of passes less than 30 km apart. The stratigraphic section consists of more than ten archaeological layers spread over two periods (the Middle Paleolithic and the Upper Paleolithic). The Furniture Art of Isturitz is also of undeniable richness because of the quantity of objects of the same kind found: the Men of Prehistory of Isturitz had a taste for "the series".They thus shaped a series of engraved plates, flattened round-bumps, semi-round rods, cut out contours, engraved pebbles, pendants, flutes, decorated bone blades, etc. By their stylistic originality and the quality of their execution, these objects are reference artefacts. THE OXOCELHAYA CAVE Oxocelhaya is 15 meters below. It is a magnificent sanctuary cave rich in a succession of highly concreted rooms; the time scale is counted in millions of years, a textbook case for a geological reading of a magical underground world. Prehistory is present there thanks to a rock art distributed in the depths of the galleries, signs, engravings, clay plating. Most of the horses are represented there. The Laplace gallery is visited once a week for conservation reasons. The most famous wall art is found in cavities, on the walls, ceilings and floors of caves. These are then called sanctuary caves. She is the typical example.Paintings (a multitude of signs), drawings (bison and horses), engravings (horses, bison and human tracks) have been preserved.  L'Hermione fait escale à Bayonne côté Anglet ! Ce navire unique, authentique réplique d'un trois-mâts du 18ème siècle a passé l'embouchure de l'Adour le 16 septembre 2021. Il restera en grand carénage, au port de Bayonne, pour l'année 2025. L'Hermione, c'est un grand voilier avec une grande histoire : en 1992, l'association Hermione-Lafayette naît à l'initiative d'un groupe de passionnés d'histoire maritime avec comme objectif la reconstruction à l'identique d'une frégate de la fin du XVIIIe siècle au cœur de l'arsenal historique de Rochefort. La construction a pu commencer le 4 juillet 1997 et s'est achevée 14 ans après, en 2014. Ce navire devient l'unique témoin de la grande époque de la marine à voile. Vous pouvez le visiter en visite libre ou en visite guidée.
